‘I told my sister her baby name is weird — I’m trying to save her child from bullying’

A name lasts forever, so you should really take time into deciding what to name your baby.
A woman has turned to Reddit to get advice on a recent situation dealing with just that. Her younger sister Shaelyn is pregnant and has chosen an unusual name.
Baby names can be tough to decide, because you may want to find something unique. Parents may stay away from some of the most common baby names, like Olivia or Liam.
The woman on Reddit shared that Shaelyn has always dreamed of being a mom, and the poster herself can’t wait to be an aunt. At first, the sister decided to keep the baby’s name private, but she recently decided to tell the family.
Shaelyn has decided to name her daughter Araya Sunshine Heavenly Olivia. The woman said Araya Sunshine will be the girl’s first name, and Heavenly Olivia are her two middle names.
“At first I thought she was joking, and she informed me that she was being completely serious, and that the two of them have had their hearts set on this name ever since they found out they were having a girl.
“I told her that she could name her baby whatever she wanted, but she should consider that she’s not just naming a baby, she’s naming a human being that will eventually become an adult, and that I think the name would be quite a weird name for an adult to have.”
Shaelyn was offended by the woman’s assertion, and then criticized the Reddit user’s daughters’ names, which are Lillian and Madeline. She called them “basic, boring, grandma names.”
“I fear that if my sister proceeds to name her baby the name they have picked out, then the poor kid’s gonna get bullied at least 10x worse than I did in school.”
Commenters agreed with her that the sister is setting her child up for bullying.
One wrote: “This poor kid is going to be bullied for having a name like that. Not to mention the difficulty finding a job when your application has ‘Araya Sunshine Heavenly Olivia’ on it.
“Should someone be bullied/ have limited job opportunities because of their name? Absolutely not. But research has shown on multiple occasions that kids are bullied because of their unique names and employers do view unique names negatively.”
